Race Headquarters

Race Headquarters will be established at Tall Tale Tours Office from Friday 4th March and Sunday 6th March 2005. Hours: 10:00 am to 6:00 p.m. Lost and found items will be held here. Telephone number: 09 408 0870.


Race Entry Fees

Detailed race information and race number will be mailed 10 days prior to the event. Entries close midnight 4th February 2005   Late Entries will be accepted upon payment of a late entry fee up to 6:00pm - 4th March 2005.

Buses and Baggage Services

A bus and baggage service will be provided for the Ultra Marathon, Marathon and Half-Marathon entrants only.

  • Ultra - marathon departs at 5.30am for start at 7am
  • Bus for Marathon departs at 8.30am for start at 9.30am
  • Bus for half-marathon departs 10am for start at 11am
  • Buses will also run from the Finish to Town at 4pm and 9pm


90 Mile Beach Te Houtaewa Challenge
 All happening on the Beach at Ahipara 11th March 2006


START VENUE – ULTRA MARATHON / RELAY

The start venue for the Ultra Marathon and 5 person relay is Maunganui Bluff which is sign posted at Te Ahu Road, Te Kao. Maunganui Bluff will be used as the assembly point, baggage collection and will include toilet facilities. The race will begin promptly at 7 am


START VENUE – MARATHON

The start venue for the Marathon is North Hukatere, which will be sign posted at Whalers Road, Pukenui. North Hukatere will be used as the assembly point, and will include toilet facilities. The race will being promptly at 9.30 am when the tide is 5 hours out.


START VENUE – HALF MARATHON / WALK - RUN

The start venue for the Half Marathon / Walk – Run is north of Waipapakauri Ramp which will be sign posted from Waipapakauri Ramp Road on the Ninety Mile Beach. The Waipapakauri Ramp will be used as the assembly point, and will include toilet facilities. The race will start promptly at 11am when the tide will be 1 hour back in.


START VENUE – 6KM WALK FOR LIFE

The start for the 6km walk is at the finish venue at Foreshore Rd, Ahipara. The course is 3km north along the beach to a turnaround point and then 3km back to the finish. The walk will begin promptly at 12pm when the tide is 1hr in.


SUPPORT STATIONS

Support Stations will be located on the course every 3 kilometres with water and energy drinks towards the end at 1 kilometre. Admission is free to all entrants and refreshments will be on sale. Equal prizes for males and females.


Course

The Finish line is at Paripari on Foreshore Rd, Ahipara, and will be sign posted from the School Corner Ahipara. Each 3 kilometres will be marked. The course is from the respective start venues (except the 6 km Walk) heading south along 90 Mile Beach along the shortest possible route. Certain check points along the way will be identified and all athletes must pass through these. ]'hey may he on the far left of the beach but will be well marked. Failure to go through the check Points will result in disqualification.

Relay vehicular traffic must keep to the LEFT of the runners at all times.


Medical

If you have a medical problem which might lead to an emergency, such as fits or diabetes, put a cross on the front of your race number and write the detail on the reverse of the race number, especially your medication. Wear appropriate clothes for the weather and distance.
Start the race well hydrated and drink regularly as you lose a lot of fluid 'insensibly'. Support Stations will have a basic first aid kit and staff attendance. A medical tent will be available at the finish venue on race day. 2 ambulances will be available around the course. Massage Available at Race Finish.

If you feel distressed, please go to the nearest Support Station for assistance.


Transport

Make own arrangements - suggest 4 x 4 wheel-drive vehicle.


Relay

The relay is a 5 person relay with each team member running an open distance of their choice. Changeover will be in accordance with standard rules whereby athletes must touch hands in the designated transition area.

In case of injury / illness during the race which forces an athlete to abandon the competition, the next stage runner may start two minutes after the last athlete has departed, but the team will thereafter compete in a non-official capacity.


Finishers

All athletes who finish the Te Houtaewa Challenge 90 Mile Beach Run are considered winners. Each will receive crowd kudos and individual recognition, a 100% cotton finishers shirt (for Ultra, Marathon and half Marathon Runners/Walkers entrants only), much individual care in replenishing what is lost in the gruelling race - food, Beverage, the on-hand availability of medical care and other perks to enhance the euphoria or ease the pain. The race number is also the certificate, so you may record your name, placing and finishing time on it. Full results will be posted out approximately seven days after the event.


TE HOUTAEWA CHALLENGE 90 MILE BEACH RUN RULES

Your participation in this event is at your own risk. Your entry is strictly personal and not transferable.

Runners must wear their own numbers at all times when competing. Race numbers issued by the Te Houtaewa Challenge 90 Mile Beach Run identify the officially entrants in the race. Folding, cutting, intentional alteration of any kind, or failure to wear the race number is STRICTLY PROHIBITED and may result in disqualification. Your race number must be placed high on the FRONT of your singlet where it is clearly visible.

All athletes shall follow the directions and instructions of all race officials and public authorities.

The organisers and sponsors of the event may have the use of your name, voice or picture in any broadcast, telecast, advertising promotion or other account of this event.


Awards Ceremony

It will be a time to reflect and share your experience with your friends and family.
Admission is free to all entrants and refreshments

will be on sale.
